Wait.... something is missing...

Sorry, I know its been a little while. Lots has happened in the last week or so. They have completed the framing and installed the insulation. We did end up adding our own insulation later that night. The put some up between the office and living room, around the laundry room, the hall bathroom and around our bedroom. We also wrote our inspirational quotes and scriptures on the framing. :) Two days later they started the drywall.

They also starting working on the outside of the house.  :) Brick finally! Yay! We have not had any other problems.... well actually we may be having one soon. Today I noticed that something was missing from the front of the house... a small white circular vent that should be above the windows. Pics below... I have place a picture of the model beside our house for comparison. We will be bringing that up to the PM tomorrow.

Sorry about the poor pic quality, it was late at night an the only light source was a battery powered lantern

Brick!!!

UPDATE:

WE WERE RIGHT! They forgot to add the decorative louver before they started the brick. We spoke with our PM about it and he said the brick layers would have to come back out and add it in addition to our decorative brick and keystone that goes around it. He says the repair should be seamless.... It better be... This is similar to what it should look like.   Pretty right?  :)   I will keep you all posted.

  1. I was just looking at your blog earlier and wondering how it was going! We will be putting our insulation in on Thursday, was it hard to do? I need to get some kind of light source like you had because it's getting dark here at 6:45 and we don't get off work til 6 :/ . That vent is definitely missing, I wonder if it's more for aesthetics? Hopefully your PM will have a quick answer! :)

    1. I must admit, the hubs put up 90% of it before I got there. Lol! But it didn't look too difficult. :) I think you just unfold the pre-cut pieces and place it in the slot. Just make sure you measure the width of the slot between the wood beams, at out house it was 16-on-center an 23-on-center. We used a lantern that we got from Lows for about 20 dollars and a headband LED flash light that shines the light wherever you look. I loved that thing, and it was only 12 dollars!

  2. If it's like our house, the vent is actually just a trim piece that's stuck to the front of the home and isn't actually functional. Better to double check that it's been ordered and will be placed on the exterior at some point, but just wanted to let you know your PM is probably being truthful in case he says it's not actually a vent.

  3. The house looks great! Love the brick exterior. Your front brick steps look so nice. My cement "stoop" is such an eyesore. Love that you wrote scripture on the beams. I wanted to do this but was not able to get there in time.

  4. Your home is coming along nicely. Did you insulate garage as well? We are planning on doing that.

    1. No, we did not. RH insulated the walls that are shared with the inside of the house so we figured that was most important. We probably should have considered doing the other walls too.

  5. I think you are talking about the louver, the white piece above the two windows. It serves as aesthetic purposes only. They usually put this on much later. As J and M, mentioned, it doesn't hurt to check that the louver has been placed on order and when they intend to install. Do you like the louver? If not, they do not have to install it per your request. I like it on the vinyl house but your brick is so gorgeous it seems to me that it would cover up the beauty of the brick. Just a thought.

    1. I think it would look nice because of the decorative brick and keystone that surrounds it. Hopefully the repair is seamless... That's the challenge now...

  6. Are you sure that your house is getting the same louver as the one pictured, since it is brick elevation, rather than siding? The reason I ask is that our home is all-brick and our louver is inset in the brick, with brick and keystones surrounding it. We were told louvers on brick were done that way, and the other way (in your model pic) were on siding only. The inset louver definitely looks better on the brick!

  7. Good thinking on adding extra insulation for the laundry room. We have 3rd floor laundry and we even have a vibration reducing washer/ dryer up there.. But we can still hear it so well from the living room and study. I wish we insulated the living room celling below the laundry room.

    1. Yeah, I wanted to insulate the living room ceiling too but that was too much work for the hubby. I hope we don't regret that later.
